A budget deficit occurs when the government spends more money than it takes in. The opposite of a budget deficit is a budget surplus. The data above is measured as a % of GDP.

In the United Kingdom, the consumer confidence survey measures the level of optimism that consumers have about the performance of the economy in the next 12 months. The survey of about 2,000 consumers asks the relative level of past and future economic conditions including personal financial situation, climate for major purchases, overall economic situation and savings levels.

Income is defined as household disposable income in a particular year. The Gini coefficient is based on the comparison of cumulative proportions of the population against cumulative proportions of income they receive, and it ranges between 0 in the case of perfect equality and 1 in the case of perfect inequality.
Comparison of Worldwide Human Development Index (HDI)
The Human Development Index (HDI) is a composite measure of three indicators to give a value of the overall development of the index. The index includes,
- Income measured by GNI/capita.
- Health measured by life expectancy at birth.
- Education measured by average and expected years of schooling.
